Canadians are reaching into their wallets to help the millions of people in drought-parched East Africa after an international declaration that parts of the region are in famine and a subsequent pledge that the federal government will match their donations.
Money from Canadian donors has doubled in the past week, says a spokesman for the Humanitarian Coalition, a collection of aid agencies that is providing relief in the crisis zone.
