Victoria Azarenka earned herself a place in the record books by becoming the highest-ranked Belarusian in WTA history.
She reached the final of the Madrid Open, where she will play Petra Kvitova.
Azarenka, the world number five, will climb up a place in the new rankings after booking her spot in Saturday’s final with a 6-4 6-2 victory over unseeded German Julia Goerges, who had knocked out world number one Caroline Wozniacki in the third round,
