Iranian nuclear scientist Shahram Amiri upon his return to Tehran in 2010. Amiri was suspected of defecting to the CIA after he disappeared in 2009, but he resurfaced in Washington in 2010 and accused the CIA of kidnapping. Georgetown professor Paul Pillar says it’s a case where intelligence agencies are uncertain of “where the loyalties of the people they’re dealing with ultimately lie.”
