Lock Jeremy Thrush was the unlikely hero as the Hurricanes emerged from their form slump with a thrilling 50-47 defeat of the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein.
The points-fest looked to be going the way of the South Africans until the Hurricanes launched one late, desperate bid for victory off a turnover deep inside their own half.
Some neat work from winger Alapati Leiua and reserve hooker Dane Coles put Thrush in the clear
